Oracle has made a gift to the Nashville Symphony, adding support from a major technology company to one of the city's prominent performing arts institutions.
The Symphony performs at Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville. Its programming includes orchestral performances and educational activities, giving it a role in the city's cultural life beyond Nashville's better-known commercial music industry.
Corporate giving is one component of support for nonprofit arts organizations, alongside ticket revenue, individual donations and foundation funding. Such contributions connect businesses with institutions that serve residents as well as visitors.
Oracle also has a substantial development connection to Nashville through its planned campus on the East Bank of the Cumberland River. Its gift to the Symphony represents a separate form of investment in the city: support for an established cultural organization rather than a workplace development.
