Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall has announced his retirement from public service, bringing a 24-year tenure leading the sheriff’s office toward its close.
The announcement marks a significant leadership transition for a countywide institution serving Nashville, including North Nashville. The sheriff’s office operates local detention facilities and oversees the custody and care of people held in those facilities.
Its responsibilities differ from those of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, which handles patrols and criminal investigations. The sheriff’s office also carries out civil process duties, including serving court documents.
Hall’s tenure has spanned more than two decades of change in Nashville. His retirement will place leadership of the county’s jail operations and other sheriff’s office responsibilities in new hands.
